Friendly Co-Founder’s ‘Monticello’ On Market For $6.5 Million

Fiendly’s Ice Cream co-founder S. Prestley Blake has put his dream house on the market in Somers for $6.5 million.

The 99-year-old retired businessman spent about 15 months on the project. Blake is a big fan of Thomas Jefferson, and the builders modeled the 10,000-square-foot house after Jefferson’s Virginia mansion, Monticello.

William Pitt Sotheby’s International Realty listed the house on Monday.

Blake, who turns 100 in November, called his Monticello his “swan song.” On Oct. 3, right after the house was finished, the family celebrated his early centennial birthday party in the mansion with more than 250 guests.

“We finished the day before the party,” Raymond E. Laplante, the project’s general contractor, said Tuesday. “Right on time. … It was quite a birthday party for Mr. Blake.”
